Foon Lok East is a part of Brooklyn Basin, a master-planned community along Oakland’s waterfront that will provide over 3,100 new homes for people of all ages, income levels and walks of life within a vibrant, 64-acre, mixed-use district that includes retail, parks and open spaces.

In the Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park, three organizations–MidPen Housing, local climate nonprofit Menlo Spark, and the Association for Energy Affordability–teamed up to retrofit Willow Court, an affordable, multifamily housing building, with fully electric appliances.

Three parties–SFUSD, the Mayor’s Office, and the United Educators of San Francisco–came together to address the need for housing for school employees in the city. MidPen worked closely with the union to understand salaries, pay schedules, household compensation, and household incomes that drive eligibility.

Foon Lok East, the fourth and final affordable housing development at Brooklyn Basin in Oakland, Calif., has been completed. The development adds 124 affordable units to the neighborhood, including 38 apartments reserved for people who have experienced homelessness.

The filing indicates progress from the development team ahead of expected construction to start next year. MidPen Housing and Tishman Speyer were selected to be co-developers of the state-owned property made available through the California Surplus Land Act.

Project team collaborators with MidPen Housing include Alameda Point Collaborative, Operation Dignity, and Building Futures. The team aims to reshape the nearly eight-acre parcel within the former military installation with a “catalytic development that will deliver quality affordable housing combined with supportive services for people who have experienced homelessness

Fairfield Mayor Catherine Moy: “This project is another significant step forward – supporting individuals of all income levels who need that hand-up, providing the appropriate resources, and creating pride and community for those who may not have felt it in a while.”

Apartments are reserved for residents earning between 20 and 60 percent of Area Median Income. Furthermore, 44 units are set aside for households who are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.

Resident Ray Pallari, a veteran, walked into his new apartment, head held high, proud of how he now has a place to call home. “God did bless me with everything. He showed me the right path.”

New building permits have been requested for the affordable educator housing project at 750 Golden Gate Avenue in the Fillmore District, San Francisco. The Live Oak Health and Housing Campus, including MidPen’s Bienestar Plaza Apartments, was recently honored by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The campus in Santa Cruz County co-locates affordable homes with community health care services.
